My Summer with FJY

I participated in several outreach activities in the Visayas in 2008 and 2009. I helped conduct leadership training and gave lectures about self- awareness and mostly values. My audiences in both of these activities were mostly 16 to 20 year olds. As I narrated my experiences to my two cousins, Helen and Bamba, an idea took shape: Let us do a similar activity here in our community!

FJY. Pamela.

I am Pamela D. Quito, 13 years old, and was born and residing in Talon, Amadeo, Cavite, Philippines. I am a third year high school student at La Belle Montessori School. My Dad, Noel is an electrician. He works abroad. My Mom, Lorna is a plain housewife. She takes care of us. She attends to my school needs and that of my sister’s, Pia.

Fr. Jordan, the inspiration of FJY and I have something in common. He was mischievous when he was a young boy. I am, too. We both faced difficulties just so we could go to school. Luckily, my parents do their best to support and guide us. We both aspired to be good role models to young people. He is already successful. I am still trying. He tried his best to have a better life; I am still hoping and preparing for one.

The longer and closer interaction with the FJY members brought me closer to God.  Now, I am more prayerful because I was introduced to read and discover the Bible. I always seek Him, whether I am in trouble or not. In fact, I commune with Him upon waking up in the morning, before and after eating, before going to bed, and at times, every hour. My prayers at present are similar to a conversation with Him, as though I see Him right beside me. I always give thanks, especially in the morning, after realizing that He gave me another day to live.

My new-found friends and guides, the Salvatorian priests and seminarians taught me how to live harmoniously with others. I learned to be more patient of one’s shortcomings and appreciative of one’s strengths. I adapted to varied personalities. I helped and was helped, as well. With a lot of compassion, I assisted those with difficulties. I faced my own trials. I became more resilient and independent. Finally, I realized the value of self-sacrifice and concern for others – the two important virtues that are essential to keep a good relationship going.

FJY. Marineth.

I am Marineth Bay, 16 years old, and currently residing here in Talon. I was born on January 29, 1993, my father died a few years ago and now I am living with my Mom, Aurora, my step-father, Sofronio Dano and my two siblings, Archie and Nocnoc. I graduated from Talon National High School and I am proud of being “FJY’s” member.

Fr. Jordan became my inspiration; he made me think about those things that I did not mind at all before and my membership to a church organization is one of them. Through it I was able to know myself better; I realized that I have to be closer to God so I can serve Him more. Furthermore Fr. Jordan has kept me reminded about prayer, it is a very effective solution to whatever problems I encounter, it is like a strong potion which is an all-cure to any illness. Prayers can also bring me hope.

Knowing Fr. Jordan’s life and works helped me realize that we have something in common. We both came from poor families with many trials but we were aware of the support and confident of the loving presence of each other. So, we endured those difficulties. Fr. Jordan was a loving son to his parents and a very good brother to his siblings. I think, I am, too! We both extended assistance and became friends to many. In spite of the many difficulties he had, he remained faithful to his vocation. He kept himself resilient against temptations. I have been trying to do the same. Finally, I have been trying to be a good role model to other teen-agers like me, just like how Fr. Jordan did.

The only difference is that he ended up as a priest and would be a saint very soon. As for me, I want to be a competent and caring teacher.

I am so lucky to be a part of a church organization like FJY. My membership to this organization made my life busy, exciting, and productive. We, as members were given opportunities to participate in a lot of activities that brought us fulfillment.  We had Bible sharing. It made me see my inner self better. We served in Sunday masses at least once a month. We visited the center for special and disabled children who are under the care of the Hospitaller Brothers. I will not forget the delight that these children demonstrated as we fed and cleaned them. We helped organize and facilitated a summer graduation ceremony. We did many other tasks. Others were church-related, others were not. But one thing is sure, I enjoyed all of them! FJY colored my world! (Do I sound like a song?)

I was a bit cautious to be with them at the beginning. Later on, all of them became my friends. Through the encouragement of the members and the guidance of the Salvatorian priests and seminarians, I was able to improve myself. Their presence gave me confidence. They assured me that aside from my family, I have another one to turn to. They gave me attention. They helped me commune with God. Maraming salamat po! (Thank You Very Much!)

Despite all these transformations, a streak of naughtiness remains in me at times. I still question and break rules. I am continuing to commit mistakes. But due to self-awareness and frequent reminders, I can now make amends and correct whatever is wrong.

FJY. Nico

What is FJY for me? What happen or what am I before FJY is established? What happened that I joined the group?

For me FJY is not only a group consists of leaders, members and SDS brothers. It’s like my own family. It’s a good thing to have because you can trust all the members, leaders and brothers with your personal life; they accept what you are now and what you were before.

Before I join the group, I am only a person with bad attitude, the attitude of a nuisance, but not so much like criminal. I always go bad places doing bad things.

After I join the group, I realize that there are lots of things to do. And that is going to church, singing religious song, reading Bible and participating to some events of youth.

And now I have a work because of the advice of the youth who recommended me to their friend in a company.

I am very thankful because I have a family like the FJY.

I am happy that we are still going strong. I hope that this good friendship will continue to the next generation

That is FJY for me. Without FJY I will be NOTHING.

FJY. Lhea.

I am Lhea R. Diaz, I am fourteen years old and I am a third year student in High School. Not so long ago I was just a little girl of my mommy and daddy but as time passed by, now I am already a teenager girl. I am a daughter of a simple housewife and a hardworking man, I was growing up in a place where I can do things on my own like reading books, watching television, playing computer games, using internet…and so much more.

What I have known about Fr. Jordan is that he was a child who grew up with a very kind heart, who had done so many good things to the society and one of it was founding the “Society of the Divine Savior.” And because of this that I was able to become a member of this youth organization “Father Jordan Youth.” If I compare the “little child Jordan” with myself I have to say that he was much better than I am, but it is not a disappointment but instead an inspiration for me to become a “better friend, sister, daughter, Christian, classmate… and that is the reason I have to thank him.

How did I become a member of “FJY”?

It was a Sunday, July 20, 2008. I together with my friend, a previous classmate went to the Chapel to attend the Mass. After the Mass there were some announcement and one of them was the enrolment for the membership of the new youth organization “Father Jordan Youth.” I and my friend got interested with that though I was a little bit hesitant because I did not ask the permission from my mother before that. But because of being forced by my friend and my curiosity so I was able to take the chance for the membership, and it was the start of all these things.

I was always trying to be an active member of this organization but as time has passed by we have encountered not little difficulties. The best example of these trials was the reducing of the members; we were getting fewer and fewer. And because of this I was thinking should I or should I not continue in this group since I was afraid of being a member of a group with only few people. And once day a brother told to us that we should not be afraid because of getting fewer but instead be happy for that. He explained that it is a part of it, we have to undergo a process of filtering in order for us to find our place if we really belong to the group. Because of this I have realize of what was happening, and I determine to be a member until now.

I have learned so many things from this organization; I have experienced many things for the first time, leaning a lot about God and how to be closer to Him. And not only that, they also have taught me how to be friend to the people I don’t know, I learned not to criticize the people by their physical appearances. They added so many colors into my life which makes my life become colorful.

May God continue to guide and bless us, and may this organization continue to help and guide other youths to see God and know more about Him.
